Formation
When the waves of the sea are hitting against the cliffs, The under part will slowly cut away. And then the upper part will fall on top. So after a while a platform is formed:
(a wave cut platform is also called a abrasion platform)
The wave cut platforms are dependent on the rock structure. Massive rocks, like granite, is resistant to abrasion and can even stop a platform formation.
When a change in the sea level occurs, the platforms can be submerged (= ondergedompeld) or raised. When this happens, the platform is called a marine terraces.
